Epoxy & Decorative Flooring Sand
Epoxy flooring sand is the filler and broadcast material used to provide mechanical strength and slip resistance in industrial epoxy and polyurethane floor coatings. In these applications the dryness of the sand, the hardness of the grains and fraction control determine the durability of the coating and the surface texture. Dry, hard silica sand with a high SiO₂ content produces a long-lasting, anti-slip surface on epoxy floors.
How to Choose Epoxy Flooring Sand
Several criteria determine the right epoxy flooring sand. Dryness is the most critical property; moisture disrupts the curing of epoxy and polyurethane resins and leads to adhesion problems, so sand with a moisture content close to 0% is used. Grain hardness (Mohs 7) improves the wear and mechanical resistance of the coating. The choice of fraction determines the surface texture: fine fractions are used as a filler in self-levelling coatings, while coarser fractions are broadcast onto the surface to create an anti-slip texture. A low clay content supports strong bonding with the resin.
Recommended Fractions for Epoxy Flooring
In self-levelling epoxy coatings fine fractions are used as a filler, while for anti-slip broadcasting fractions in the 50–70 AFS range are used. We can determine the appropriate fraction together, based on your coating system and the desired surface texture.
About Epoxy & Decorative Flooring Sand
Why is dry sand essential for epoxy flooring?
Moisture disrupts the curing and adhesion of epoxy and polyurethane resins. For this reason, dry sand with a moisture content close to 0% is used.
Which fraction is broadcast for slip resistance?
In broadcast anti-slip applications, fractions in the 50–70 AFS range are generally preferred; the desired texture determines the choice of fraction.
Is silica sand compatible with epoxy?
Dry silica sand with a low clay content forms a strong bond with epoxy resin and increases the durability of the coating.
In which packaging is epoxy flooring sand supplied?
It can be supplied in big-bags or 25 kg sacks according to your needs.
