Garnet
High-density almandine garnet filter medium. As the bottom (dense) layer in multimedia filters, it delivers high-rate, deep filtration. Compliant with ISO 11126/11127.

What is Garnet?
Garnet is an almandine garnet medium used in the bottom layer of multimedia water-treatment filters thanks to its high density and hardness. Its high Mohs hardness and density prevent the layers from intermixing during backwash, providing long-lasting, high-rate filtration. It is supplied in compliance with ISO 11126/11127.
Garnet is a high-density filter medium made up of the almandine variety of garnet mineral. Its typical composition contains 97–98% garnet (almandine), 36.1% SiO₂, 29.5% FeO and 20.5% Al₂O₃, with a free-silica content below 0.1%. A density of roughly 4.0 g/cm³ and a Mohs hardness of 7.5–8 make it the densest bottom layer in multimedia filters. Supplied in the 0.18–0.6 mm grain range, it increases the surface area in deep, high-rate filtration and raises the fine-particle capture capacity.

Where is it used?
Thanks to its high density it sits at the very bottom of multimedia filters and prevents the layers from intermixing during backwash.
In high-flow systems it delivers deep filtration and fine-particle capture performance.
Because of its high hardness it can also be used as an ISO 11126-compliant sandblasting abrasive.

What is garnet used for?
It is used as the bottom (dense) layer in multimedia water-treatment filters; it captures fine particles and preserves the layer order during backwash.
What are the density and hardness of garnet media?
Almandine garnet has a density of roughly 4.0 g/cm³ and a Mohs hardness of 7.5–8; these properties make it an ideal bottom layer for multimedia filters.
What grain size is garnet supplied in?
It is typically supplied in the 0.18–0.6 mm range, in compliance with ISO 11126/11127.
