Product Info

What is Filter Sand?

Filter sand is the main filtration layer that traps suspended solids in drinking-water, wastewater and pool treatment plants. Compliant with the TS EN 12904 standard and drinking-water approved, our silica filter sand provides a stable bed and effective filtration thanks to its narrow, consistent grain distribution. It is washed, dried and classified at our facilities in the Trakya region.

Filter sand is high-SiO₂ silica sand classified within a specific grain range for use in water-treatment beds. Our product complies with the TS EN 12904 standard and meets the chemical and physical safety criteria required for drinking-water treatment; the typical SiO₂ content is 96.3% and the Fe₂O₃ content is 0.18%. It is offered in controlled fractions such as 0.4–0.8 mm and 0.5–1.0 mm; its washed and dust-free structure ensures low loss during backwashing and long service life.

Frequently Asked Questions

About Filter Sand

What micron / grain size should filter sand be?

The most common range for drinking-water and pool filters is 0.4–0.8 mm and 0.5–1.0 mm. The right grain size is determined by the filter type and flow rate.

What is TS EN 12904 filter sand?

TS EN 12904 is the standard defining the chemical and physical safety criteria for silica-based filter media used in drinking-water treatment. Our product complies with this standard.

How often is filter sand replaced?

It varies with usage intensity and water quality; with regular backwashing it runs efficiently for a long time. Its low-abrasion structure reduces losses.

Should I use filter sand for my pool?

In sand-filter pool systems, 0.4–0.8 mm silica filter sand is a common and economical solution.
